The First Galleria

This building was built in 1891 and used to be a British residential, Pejabat Ukur, a furniture shop, and now, a galleria. It is now under a private care, First Managers Sdn. Bhd. and that is why the entrance fee is chargeable. It helps them upkeep the building, and add more exhibits in the coming future.

Galleria first began operations on Saturday the 3rd of June 2011 and is now entering its 3rd year at the initial stage, the performance is at low and medium levels.



SELECTION OF AREA

Taiping is the second largest town in Perak after Ipoh which it is located about 85 km north of the town of Ipoh and 95km away from the south of Penang. Once upon a time the city is located in the heart of the main routes north and south, but at present a shortcut was built that is located about 6 km from the town of Taiping.

Sanitary Board is a building that was selected to conduct this research. The building was built in 1892, almost reaching 122 years. The uniqueness of this building is located on a structure that has survived to the present. The building is located near the first railway in Peninsular Malaysia, which has connecting Taiping and Port Weld Town 8 miles. Among the interesting factor of this building is its position next to Post Office, built in 1884, the Government Rest House which was built in 1894 and also the first English school in Malaya, King Edward VII, built in 1883 by the early history of the purpose this building is home to the Board of Health to Taiping. In 1950, the building was home to Taiping Health Office and the Office of the District Council (Taiping Municipal Council). 

This architecture is characterized by Anglo-Indian (the 19th century). In addition, the building is also used as an office building Taiping Municipal Council (MPT), which is now used as an exhibition hall and private companies furniture business. Board Hygiene (Sanitary Board) is the government body established during British rule. Therefore, building more highlights features alongside British colonial architecture combined with locally. Two-storey building was built half-concrete, half board on the ground floor while the upper floor is built entirely with hair.

Background Building



Heritage buildings that are more focused on the Taiping government buildings and shop houses where the architecture is from British influence .There are 83 houses and 34 shops public buildings in Taiping. Shop is the most significant building and a significant landmark in Taiping. It was imported from China and influenced by colonial architecture that evolved in the 16th century to mid- century 20th .This colonial architecture brought by European colonialists who had conquered Malaysia as Portuguese , Dutch and English have been modified according to the climatic conditions of Malaysia.

Architecture that is often used is Utilitarian, Neo - Classical, Palladian, Minnan, Modern and others. One of the unique heritage buildings are many buildings with concrete found in soluble lead elsewhere in the peninsula. In fact, according to public opinion, the town of Taiping has already appeared with the buildings and stone houses while at the Kuala Lumpur was still filled with dilapidated houses like barns. Design shops and government buildings are still intact and attractive look where visitors can experience the nostalgia of the golden age of Taiping through these historic buildings.

Heritage Urban Management was initiated by the Taiping Municipal Council begins after the Perak State Council on 8 September 1999 approved the Proposed Taiping Heritage Preservation containing the list of selected buildings and intensive and Development Guidelines Taiping Heritage. On August 30, 2000, Advanced Guideline Heritage, Larkin has been approved and certified for use in the overall planning process to guide management application development Heritage City.

TAIPING OF TOWN HERITAGE



Sublime Taiping means ‘Peace’ which is a town of former mining land .Generally there are many historic buildings in Malaysia, especially those featuring traditional Malay, Chinese, Indian and Colonial who has reached the age of hundreds of years. This historic building features carved woodwork and fine arts facilities.

Referring to the results of Study Inventory Malaysia Heritage buildings was done by the Department of Museums and Antiquities in 1992, there were more than 35,000 pre-war buildings constructed in 265 cities around the country, which remains conserved (Syed Zainol Abidin Idid,1996).

This historic building consists of various categories such as administrative buildings, institutional, commercial, religious, residential and others. In addition, many of these historic buildings have architectural design and interesting sculptures that are not available in most common modern building construction.

Bangunan Warisan Taiping
